6 hours of continuous rain brings life to stand still in Mumbai
More than 300 mm (11.8 inches) rain lashed Mumbai in a six-hour duration till 7.00 a.m (0130 GMT)

6 hours of continuous rain brought life to stand still in Mumbai on Monday, more heavy showers are forecast later in the day.
Mumbai city, home to some 12 million people, received 11.8 inches of rain six hours till 7 am, civic officials said in a statement.
Heavy rains flooded roads and railway tracks on Monday pushing the authorities to shut some schools and colleges.
While overflowing rivers in the northeastern state of Assam affected more than 2 million people.
Following the heavy rain, the Central Railway said it cancelled some long-distance trains due to water on tracks leading to morning rush-hour traffic piled up on the Eastern and Western Express highways in Mumbai.
“There is heavy traffic on the roads and rail lines too have been affected,” Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the western state whose capital is Mumbai, said in a statement posted on X, urging people to stay indoors unless necessary.
The heavy downpour in Mumbai came days after record-breaking showers in the Indian capital Delhi, which caused a fatal airport roof-collapse.
