At least 85 people are reported to have been killed and hundreds injured in a deadly stampede at a charity distribution event in Yemen’s capital Sanaa early on Thursday.
The stampede reportedly occurred as people gathered to receive financial aid event held at a local school to receive gifts of 5,000 rials (about $8) for the end of Ramadan.
At least “85 were killed and more than 322 were injured”, a Houthi security official told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that around 50 were in serious condition.
“Women and children were among the dead,” the official said. A health official confirmed the toll.
Meanwhile, harrowing footage from the spot of the incident is circulating on social media.
