AKUH refutes rumours of “hundreds” of coronavirus cases at the facility

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) Karachi on Tuesday released an official statement, refuting all the  rumours and misinformation regarding the number of coronavirus cases reported at the medical center.

As per the details, a fake text message is doing rounds on social media claiming that 745 cases of coronavirus had been reported at AKUH Karachi.

The unknown person alleged that the hospital has been receiving hundreds of coronavirus cases as he/she took their daughter to AKUH witnessing scores of patients of coronavirus.

The person further added that a doctor at the hospital told that the government has strictly prohibited them from sharing reports.

Giving the response of the fake text, AKUH, in its press release clarified the fact.

“AKUH is aware and has taken note of some individuals/groups posting fake and unsubstantiated news regarding the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and causing an unnecessary panic”.

“We are actively screening patients to ensure that we do not miss any case. To date, only one person has been confirmed to have COVID-19 at AKUH,” the statement reads.

The statement further said, “we are doing everything to ensure the safety of people visiting our clinics and admitted in our hospital”, adding that “the hospital is open and safe”.

The official statement requests people to rely on “credible news coming directly from the facility or the government or WHO.”

AKUH also counseled people to protect themselves from the infection by frequently washing their hands and coughing/sneezing into a tissue or in one’s elbow.
