The Punjab education department announced the closure of all public and private schools in the cities of Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad for two days due to poor air quality.
The notification issued by the concerned authority states that the schools in the three districts will remain closed on 15 and 16 November due to “dense smog”.

Punjab Minister for Schools Education Dr. Murad Raas, has shared a copy of the notification on twitter saying, “All Public & Private Schools in Lahore, Faisalabad & Gujranwala will be closed tomorrow Friday, November 15th & Saturday, November 16th, 2019 due to Poor Air Quality. We will protect our children at all costs. Punjab Government is taking all necessary steps to improve air quality”.
A day earlier, the provincial education department had prohibited holding all outdoor activities in all public and private schools across the province till December 20 due to poor air quality.
Students have also been directed to wear air filter masks during school hours.
According to Air Visual’s Air Quality Index (AQI) list on Wednesday, Lahore’s air quality remained ‘hazardous’ with an air quality ranking of 447.
This is for the second time in a month that the Punjab government has decided to keep schools closed due to smog.
