Amnesty International praises Pakistan Govt’s ‘Ehsas’ program

The international NGOAmnesty International South Asia  has lauded Pakistan government’s initiative to secure the economic and social rights of the poor.

The official Twitter handle of the non-governmental organization, Amnesty International South Asia on Thursday praised the new Ehsas program that aims to provide a helping hand to the country’s ‘vulnerable communities.’

The statement on Twitter reads, “An important step by the Government of Pakistan to help the country’s most vulnerable communities realize their economic and social rights. The rights to food, housing, education, and health lay the foundation upon which a dignified life may be built”.

Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday announced the launch of Rs 80 billion comprehensive poverty alleviation program “Ehsas”, aimed at helping the oppressed and vulnerable sections of society, including the poor, orphans, widows, homeless, disabled, undernourished and jobless Pakistani citizens.

While addressing the launching ceremony of Ehsas program PM Imran Khan said that under this, the government would need to amend the constitution to make these fundamental rights, so the state can guarantee these five important things to the citizens of Pakistan.

He also added that the government would be amending Article 38(D) of the Constitution to provide food, shelter, education and health facilities to Pakistani citizens.
