Arif Alvi Granted 20-Day Protective Bail by Sindh High Court in Protest Cases
Cases have been registered against the former president in areas including Mianwali, Taxila, and Rawalpindi
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday granted former President Arif Alvi a 20-day protective bail in connection with three cases filed against him following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest on November 24.
The court ordered Arif Alvi to submit a surety bond of Rs 50,000 as part of the bail conditions in three different cases.
The cases involve allegations that arose during the PTI protest, which has led to increased scrutiny and legal challenges for several party leaders.
This protective bail allows Alvi to avoid immediate arrest while he navigates the legal proceedings stemming from these allegations.
Justices Salahuddin Panhwar and Adnanul Karim Memon of the SHC also noted that the case would be forwarded to a constitutional bench for further proceedings.
At the beginning of the hearing, Alvi’s lawyer contended that, despite his involvement in peaceful protests, several cases had been filed against him in various cities.
Cases have been registered against the former president in areas including Mianwali, Taxila, and Rawalpindi, with the lawyer alleging that these charges are politically driven to exert pressure.
He urged the court to grant a 20-day protective bail, restrain the Sindh police from arresting Alvi, and bar the inclusion of his name in any undisclosed FIRs.
