Ashura processions are being carried out across Pakistan amid tight security on Tuesday, 10th Muharram ul Haram.

Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions.

To ensure the safety of the processions, mobile phone services and the internet were suspended across the country including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and other cities. 

Large processions have been organised in major cities, with thousands of mourners participating in mourning ceremonies and paying tribute to the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

In his message on Ashura Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed promoting equality, tolerance, unity and discipline within ourselves to deal with the country’s internal and external threats.

The premier Advising to draw inspiration from the values of fortitude and courage from the martyrs of Karbala, said everyone should forget the racial, professional, linguistic and other differences to make our country stronger.

In his message on Ashura, President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the need to display of unity and face the forces of cruelty and evil with steadfastness while learning lessons from the incident of Karbala.

President Asif Ali Zardari appealed to the entire nation to stand for forbearance, hard work and justice, besides realising the requirements of the poor and the needy.
