Azam Swati handed to the FIA on a two-day physical remand

Azam Swati has been handed over to the FIA on a two-day physical remand on Sunday.


PTI Senator Azam Swati was taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) early Sunday morning over controversial tweets against senior military officials.

As reported, PTI leader was arrested in raid on his farmhouse in Islamabad.

A three-member FIA team raided Swati’s farmhouse in Chak Shahzad for sharing controversial remarks on Twitter and took him into custody.

The FIA produced Azam Swati before the judicial magistrate around mid-day and sought his physical remand for eight days.

However, the judicial magistrate in Islamabad approved two-day judicial remand of former federal minister Azam Swati and handed him over to the FIA.

On the other hand, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Sunday put a ban on the broadcasting of speeches by PTI leader and Senator Azam Swati under Section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance.

As per the regulatory authority, no TV channel is allowed to run any ticker, news, or statement issued by Azam Swati.

Furthermore, there will also be a ban on the re-run of Azam Swati’s speech and his invitation as a guest in any TV programme. 

The licence of news channels would be suspended without any show-cause notice if they violated its order, PEMRA notified on Sunday.

This is the second time in less than two months that PTI Senator Azam Swati has been arrested.

He was previously arrested by the FIA in October for a controversial tweet as well.
