Brazil confirms first case of novel coronavirus in Sao Paulo

Brazil’s health ministry on Wednesday has confirmed the first case of a novel coronavirus in Latin America.

A 61-year-old man who returned recently from Italy has been tested positive for novel coronavirus.

According to the Brazilian health ministry, the infected person travelled to Lombardy in northern Italy from February 9 to February 21 and had symptoms similar to the novel coronavirus.

In Europe, Italy has been the worst affected country with more than 350 tested positive and 18 deaths.

The first infected patient of Brazil will be monitored in quarantine for the next 14 days at Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo.

The sanitary agency of Brazil said that it has requested the list of passengers travelled from Italy to Brazil.

Meanwhile, the health ministry of Brazil is currently tracking 20 suspected cases of coronavirus who had returned from Asia and Europe.
