British Airways flight to Germany lands in Scotland mistakenly

Not a perfect start of the week for the passengers on a British Airways flight from London’s City Airport to Dusseldorf in Germany as they met with a  Monday morning surprise.

The flight which was bound to Dusseldorf, Germany mistakenly landed in Edinburgh, Scotland. The reason cited for the mistake was due to a mix up with paperwork.

As being reported, the diversion from London City airport happened after incorrect documentation was submitted for the flight.

The error of an incorrectly filed flight plan, lead both the pilot and cabin crew to believe the flight was bound for Edinburgh.

Upon landing, the passengers onboard the flight did not realize the error until a “Welcome to Edinburgh” announcement was made.

BA flight 3271 took off at 7.46am and touched down in the Scottish capital at 8.47am, instead of the expected 9.40am arrival in Dusseldorf.

According to the management consultant Sophie Cooke, the aircraft sat on the apron for two and a half hours before finally setting off for its original destination in western Germany.

She also added that the passengers onboard assumed it was a “joke” when the pilot initially made the announcement that the plane was about to land in Edinburgh.

The captain of the flight afterward apologized to the passengers, telling them the plane would refuel before heading to Germany.

In a statement, a spokesperson for British Airways said the airline was working with WDL Aviation “to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed.”

“We have apologized to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually,” the spokesperson said.

The flight was operated by German leasing company WDL Aviation on behalf of the British Airways subsidiary airline BA CityFlyer. As being reported the incorrect flight plan was filed at WDL Aviation’s offices in Germany.
