Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said revelations by the United Kingdom-based firm Broadsheet had once again exposed the massive scale of ruling elites’ corruption and money laundering.
PM Imran Khan in a series of tweets has addressed the issue as he said earlier that he will bring the Broadsheet matter before the public.
The premier a day earlier has also formed an inter-ministerial committee after Broadsheet LLC’s Kaveh Moussavi said his firm was influenced by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and others and that it had evidence of money laundering by some other Pakistanis.
In a series of tweets, on Wednesday the premier said:
“Panama Papers exposed our ruling elites’ corruption & money laundering earlier. Now Broadsheet revelations have again exposed the massive scale of our ruling elites’ corruption & money laundering. These elites cannot hide behind “victimisation” card on these international revelations,”
“What do these revelations expose repeatedly?”, he continued adding:
1. Exactly what I have been saying in my 24-yr fight against corruption which is the biggest threat to Pak’s progress.
2. These elites come to power & plunder the country.
3. They do money laundering to stash their ill-gotten gains abroad, safe from domestic prosecution.
4. They then use their political clout to get NROs. That is how they kept their plundered wealth safe. The people of Pak are the biggest losers.
“Not only is their nation’s wealth stolen by the elites, but their taxpayer money paid for recovering this wealth is also wasted because of NROs. These revelations tip of the iceberg. We want complete transparency from Broadsheet on our elites’ money laundering & on who stopped investigations,” he concluded.
