California reports its first coronavirus death
California, western U.S. state, reported its first death from the coronavirus on Wednesday. Meanwhile, L.A. County declares emergency
As being reported, an elderly patient in the Sacramento area who died on Wednesday had recently returned from an international cruise on a Princess Cruise ship that departed from San Francisco and went to Mexico.
Officials said that close contacts of the patient are being quarantined and monitored for the illness.
He traveled on a cruise ship, the Grand Princess, from February 11 to February 21, that departed from San Francisco and went to Mexico.
“Jennifer and I extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this death in Placer County,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said.
“The state is working with federal officials to follow up on contact tracing of individuals that may have been exposed to provide treatment and protect public health”, he further added.
Reportedly, the patient also had contact with at least 10 healthcare workers and five emergency responders, who are being quarantined.
Death toll from coronavirus in the US has risen to 10 so far — all of them in Washington state.
