Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, former defence minister, passes away

Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, former defence minister and chairman Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passed away at his Lahore residence on Tuesday, aged 74.

His funeral prayers were offered after Zuhr at the T-Block mosque in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, Ch Mukhtar had served as the defence minister in the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani-led cabinet.

As being reported, Earlier this month he had been admitted to the Shalimar Hospital, a health facility he and his family helped to develop.

He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and undergone surgery in the United States some time ago.

His funeral prayers were offered after Zuhr at the T-Block mosque in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday.

PPP leadership and many others have extended condolence messages on social media on the sad demise of Chaudry Ahmed Mukhtar.

 

Born in Lahore on June 22, 1946, Mukhtar entered politics in 1990 as a member of the PPP.

In 1993, he was elected to the National Assembly and was appointed Minister for Commerce till 1996 during the tenure of Benazir Bhutto.
