Former IMF Chief Christine Lagarde Urges World Leaders to Act Like Grown Ups

Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde has recently stepped down from her post after eight long service years. During her tenure she had to maintain silence over many issues, including US’s role in the world economic conditions, but not anymore.

In an interview to CBS program 60 Minutes, Lagarde opened up and criticized President Trump and world leaders for engaging in childish wars. She emphasized that Trump’s irrational policies against China can hamper the world economic growth by a huge impact.

“Market stability should not be the subject of a tweet here, a tweet there,” said Lagarde. While adding further, “It requires consideration, thinking, quiet and measured and rational decisions.”

Lagarde also urged world leaders to act like grown ups and sit together to formulate meticulous policies that help the global economy develop.

“My very, very strong message to all policymakers is please sit down like big men, many men in those rooms and put everything on the table, and try to deal bit by bit, piece by piece, so that we have certainty,” emphasized Lagarde.

Lagarde who has helmed the largest financial institution of the world will now be taking charge as the head of European Central Bank on November 1.
