Classes from 9th to 12th to start from Jan 18; while primary schools to reopen from Feb 1

Classes from 9th to 12th to start from January 18; while primary schools to reopen from February 1, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood announced on Friday.

He also said that higher education institutions; universities and colleges will also reopen from February 1. The minister announced that this year, high school students will not be promoted without examinations.

The announcement was made after a  high-level meeting held earlier today at the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) to review the latest situation of the coronavirus pandemic.

While addressing a presser, the federal minister said that education had suffered losses over the past few months due to the coronavirus situation, adding that the government also has to take care of people’s health.

“Everyone is concerned about the loss of education during the previous lockdown but we have to strike a balance so as to ensure the safety of students,” Shafqat Mehmood said.

Furthermore, the NCOC next week will review infection rates in different cities and districts before the reopening of higher education institutions and primary and middle schools, the education minister added.

Meanwhile, the provincial minister  Murad Raas shared the schedule for all schools of Punjab:

“9,10,11,12 classes to open on January 18th, 2021. Primary, Middle, and Universities will be opening on February 1st, 2021. The situation is being monitored daily for the safety of our students and teachers and their families”, he shared in a tweet.
