Cold Wave Grips Pakistan While Lahore’s Severe Pollution Crisis Continues
Met Office forecasts cold and dry weather across the country
Cold waves sweep across the country while Lahore continues grappling with severe air pollution, ranking first in the world with a smog level 277.
Lahore is experiencing cold and dry conditions with a minimum temperature of 7°C and a maximum of 20°C on Thursday. The humidity level in the walled city is at 75%, and wind speeds are recorded at 2 km/h.
A cold wave is affecting much of Pakistan, with temperatures in Islamabad dropping to -1°C. Northern regions are experiencing even colder conditions, with Leh recording -13°C and Quetta seeing temperatures as low as -5°C. The Shigar Valley has also reported the season’s first snowfall, disrupting communication in several areas.
Light rain and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas, contributing to the ongoing winter conditions across the country.
Shallow fog is likely in some areas of south Punjab and upper Sindh in the morning.

From December 13 to 14 (Friday and Saturday), cold wave conditions are anticipated across most parts of the country. Frost is likely in the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab during morning hours, with minimum temperatures expected to drop 5-7 degrees Celsius below normal due to the cold wave.
On December 15 (Sunday), mainly cold and dry weather is expected, with very cold conditions persisting in hilly areas. Frost may again occur in the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab during the morning.
For December 16 and 17 (Monday and Tuesday), mainly cold and dry weather is forecasted for most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy conditions are likely in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Frost is also expected in the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab during morning hours.
