Coronavirus in Pakistan: Ministry of Maritime Affairs Gives Paid Leaves to Daily Wagers

In a rare time of crisis that pandemic novel Coronavirus has caused around the world, some unprecedented measures have been taken by Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments which deserve to be highlighted and lauded. This time good news came in from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs that has allowed its daily wage workers a paid leave – an exemplary act of kindness in these tough times.

Taking into account the rapid spread of Coronavirus in the country and the financial vulnerability of daily wage workers, the ministry has decided to let the employees enlisted in their respective organizations and continue paying them.

“Big step to curtail the spread of #CoronaInPakistan taken by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. Daily wagers in organizations under MoMA will stay home but will continue to get paid. They will remain on the employers’ list of the organization. They will be asked to report for duty as per requirements,” said the minister of MoMA Ali Haider Zaidi on twitter.

The minister also shared the official memo issued from the department in which it was stated that daily wage workers can take paid off-days in which they will be only called in unavoidable conditions. The ministry will pay them for the month of March and April 2020, and they will continue to be associated with the department as job security.
