Coronavirus Outbreak: Facebook Shuts Down its Singapore and London Offices

After an employee at the Marina One office of Facebook Singapore tested positive for COVID-19, the social media giant has shut down its office till March 13, for deep cleaning. The same employee had traveled to Facebook London’s office, therefore the same has also been closed down till Monday to sanitize.

“We have immediately closed the affected areas for deep cleaning and advised employees based in the affected area to work from home until 13 March,” Facebook told AFP in an email statement.

“The infected employee had also visited Facebook’s London offices between February 24 and 26. We are therefore closing our London offices until Monday for deep cleaning and employees are working from home until then,” the statement added.

As a safety measure, Facebook has asked individuals who came in contact with the affected employee to self-isolate themselves for two weeks and look for symptoms of Coronavirus if any appear.

Earlier Facebook had also announced shutting down its Shanghai office for an indefinite period. Additionally, employees in South Korea, Italy, and San Francisco have been advised to work from home.

Coronavirus has now reached 91 countries with over 100,000 people diagnosed positive for the virus. The death toll according to AFP has now reached 3,400 worldwide.
