The Health Ministry of Iran on Thursday asked the authorities of the republic to cancel the Friday prayers and any other congregations in the country amid fears of the novel coronavirus.
The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted the Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour as saying all forms of congregations must be canceled till further notice issued.
In his statement, the spokesperson said that 15 medical labs will be opened within next week to diagnose novel coronavirus infections.
Iran said on Thursday that its death toll from coronavirus had risen to 26, the highest number of fatalities from the virus outside China, and the total number of infected people has now reached 245, including several senior officials.
The novel coronavirus named COVID-19 by World Health Organisation (WHO) has sounded global alarms after the outbreak claimed hundreds of lives in China, reported over 2,800 deaths as health experts struggling to find a cure.
Started from Wuhan in China, the virus has spread to more than 30 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Singapore, France, Russia, Spain and India.
The outbreak has been declared as an international health emergency by the World Health Organization.
