Coronavirus Outbreak: Pakistan’s tally hits 28 as 7 new cases of COVID-19 have emerged in pilgrims

Seven new cases of COVID-19 have emerged in pilgrims who were put in quarantine at Taftan border on returning from Iran, jumping the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 28 in Pakistan, State Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed on Friday.

In a news conference, accompanied by PM’s Special Assistant on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan and SAPM on National Security Moeed Yusuf, Dr. Mirza said a minor boy and his attendee woman are tested positive for COVID-19.

Informing about the mobile laboratory that has been established at the Taftan border to treat such cases of coronavirus, the de facto health minister said: “all 28 cases are travellers”.

Earlier today, a new case of the novel coronavirus has been confirmed in Sindh, the health department reported.

The 52-year-old patient, who has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus has arrived from Islamabad two days ago. The patient’s contacts are being traced for the screening of the virus.

On Thursday, a statement issued by the Sindh health department reported that 54 individuals were tested negative for the virus.  At least 251 have been tested in Sindh, 110 in Punjab, 30 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 18 in Balochistan, 9 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 32 in G-B.

However, K-P, AJK and federal territories have not reported any confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.
