Coronavirus Outbreak: Pakistan’s tally jumps to 16 cases, as eight new coronavirus cases emerge in Karachi

Coronavirus positive cases tally in Pakistan as jumped to 16 cases, as eight new cases have emerged in Karachi.

According to the latest development, nine people returned from abroad were tested positive for novel coronavirus in Karachi on Monday.

As being reported, five people infected with the coronavirus arrived in Pakistan from Doha via Syria. Three patients reportedly arrived in Karachi from London via Dubai.

“The department is in the process of tracking all the contacts down for further testing. This brings the total number of cases to 13 in Sindh, out of which 1 has been cured and discharged,” the Sindh health department’s second statement read.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed all government and private hospitals to share details of patients with symptoms of pneumonia so that their further medical investigations could be conducted to ensure that they have not contracted the mysterious disease.

Earlier, the Sindh health department had reported the fifth coronavirus case in Karachi. The infected person returned from Doha, Qatar earlier in the day.

The ministry added that the 53-year-old man is a resident of Karachi, who along his family, has been moved to quarantine.

Meanwhile, Sindh information minister Nasir Hussain Shah has urged the public not to panic.

In a statement, he said that the nation had to “face the situation together and come out of this crisis”.

He further added that only 2% of people infected with the virus had died and only people with a weak immune system were susceptible to the disease.

Meanwhile, Zafar Mirza State Minister for Health, in a tweet shared, I can confirm 9 new cases of #COVID19 in Karachi. All these cases are contacts of an already confirmed case. Further contacts are being traced and tested. This makes a total of 16 cases in Pakistan.
