Coronavirus Situation Worsening In Pakistan; Positivity Rate Almost 10% with 3,876 fresh cases

The coronavirus situation in Pakistan is worsening with an almost 10% positivity rate as the country reports more than 3,000 cases for the straight third day.

During the past 24 hours, 42 more deaths and 3,876 fresh infections were reported across the country.

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 40,946 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours resulting in 3,876 were positive, taking the national positivity ratio to 9.46%.

There are so far 29,576 active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan. 

Furthermore, at least 1,446 people are reported to have been recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours, official data revealed. 

The nationwide death toll has now surged to 13,799.

Punjab remains the most affected province with 2,033 new cases reported and 25 deaths during the past 24 hours, according to the official COVID-19 portal.

This is the first time that the province has reported more than 2,000 cases in a day since July last year.

Meanwhile, the situation in the federal capital is also grave. Islamabad has reported 747 cases, its highest daily reported cases since the emergence of the virus and three deaths over the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate of coronavirus cases spiked up to 8.4% in the federal capital only.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 681 new cases and six deaths over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Balochistan reported 16 cases and one death.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir, have reported 106 cases and two deaths.

While Gilgit Baltistan did not report any case or death.

A day earlier the national positivity ratio hit 8%, the first since last year.

Amid the surging positive COVID-19 cases, the authorities in Islamabad have imposed a new set of restrictions in the federal capital.

According to a notification by the city’s district magistrate, ” outdoor dining in restaurants will be closed at 10:00 pm in the Federal Capital during the weekdays, and for the weekends (Saturday& Sunday).”

The notification further said that all commercial activities and outdoor dining activities will remain suspended during the weekends.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan (SAPM) on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan on Saturday has urged the citizens to comply with the coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as the national COVID-19 positivity ratio crossed 9%.

Asad Umar, Federal Planning and Development Minister and Chief of NCOC  has also warned that the government will impose stronger restrictions if the people fail to comply with the coronavirus SOPs.

“If sop compliance does not improve, we will be forced to place stronger restrictions on activities. Please be very very careful. The new strain spreads faster and is more deadly,” he said in a tweet.
