Dengue surge more than 10,000 cases in Pakistan, government fears further rise

Pakistan is experiencing dengue outbreak—a life-threatening health concern due to poor sanitary conditions in the country. Since the last two months, the reported dengue cases have reached to 10,000 across all the provinces, reveals Minister of State for health.

The health minister, Zafar Mirza during a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday said that more than 10,000 people have been diagnosed with dengue since last two months revealing Punjab has been reported with the highest dengue cases 2,363 people followed by Sindh 2,258 were diagnosed with the viral fever. The cases of dengue reported in Baluchistan were 1,772 and in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa 1,814 people were tested positive for the mosquito-borne viral infection.

“The government is trying its best to take measures to control the disease,” the minister said during the press conference.

The minister further informed that the statistics that are being obtained through the screening tests of affected people were added to the report on the website of the National Institute of Health.

In the next 24 hours, the number of cases of dengue may surge,” said Zafar Mirza.

The health department of Punjab revealed that 15 more people died of the viral fever in Punjab during the last 24 hours.

The health department further told 152 dengue cases in Rawalpindi, 248 in Islamabad, 06 in Sargodha and 4 in Lahore were reported during the last 24 hours.

Three people have died in Baluchistan affected by dengue, reports said.

While quoting the outbreak as a serious issue, the health minister further said the political parties are playing politics on the matter adding that the government will take all the necessary measures to combat the spread of disease.

“When there’s a disease outbreak, there’s panic,” he said.
