Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat has contracted coronavirus.
The development comes as the federal capital reports surge in COVID-19 cases.
DC shared his health update in a tweet on Sunday.
“I have tested positive for covid -19. Request for prayers,” he said.
DC Shafqaat also cited a ” family wedding function” as the source of the spread of the virus which has also infected his parents.
Islamabad on Monday has reported 371 new COVID-19 infections and two more deaths.
Furthermore, new restrictions have been imposed in the federal capital in view of the rapidly rising coronavirus cases.
The deputy commissioner after revealing himself COVID-19 positive a notification of the lockdown in certain areas of Islamabad.

Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Hamza Shafqat made the announcement saying, “Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been put in place for the implementation of the rule.”
