Dubai unveils world’s largest fountain, sets record

United Arab Emirates (UAE) has set a record for the world’s largest fountain in Dubai on Thursday, as the Gulf city seeks to boost its hard-hit tourism sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Located at The Pointe in Dubai’s waterfront Palm Jumeirah area, the Palm Fountain was unveiled in a mega launch that was live-streamed around the world.

Covering an area of 1,335 square metres, the Palm Fountain is located at The Pointe shopping and dining district on Palm Jumeirah— the palm-shaped island.

“GWR is delighted to officially see The Palm Fountain breaking the title of the Largest fountain,” Shaddy Gaad, Senior Marketing Manager at Guinness World Records said in a statement.

“This fountain is an example of another milestone in Dubai’s architectural achievements,” it said, adding that Guinness was declaring it “Officially Amazing”.

Reports said that the extended fountain spans over 14,000 square feet (1,300 square meters) of sea water.

Decorated with over 3,000 LED lights, the only multicoloured fountain of Dubai will be open to the public all year round.

The fountain will show three-minute dancing water shows set to music, running every 30 minutes.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, already holds a string of world record titles — including the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, and the fastest police car in service, a Bugatti Veyron.
