Economic Coordination Committee approves export of sugar up to 100,000 metric tons

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Thursday approved the export of sugar up to 100,000 metric tons.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has given permission to export one lakh tonnes of sugar while also approving the issuance of technical grants to the Department of Housing and Climate Change.

The Finance Minister decided on the summary of the sugar export of the Ministry of Food Security and allowed the export of 100,000 tonnes of sugar.

According to Finance Ministry sources, the ECC approved the export of sugar from Pakistan every fortnight.

The statement said that the ECC may approve further export of sugar after reviewing the stocks.

According to the sources, the next meeting of the ECC will consider allowing more Chinese exports.

The government imposed a ban on sugar export earlier this year in April, claiming that the ban would drop sugar prices in the country and provide relief to the people.

Pakistan’s exports of sugars and sugar confectionery were US$153.12 Million in 2021, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade.
