The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decides to hold local govt polls in Karachi, Hyderabad on Jan 15.
“The provincial government cannot do legislation for the postponement of the local bodies elections. It is prerogative of the Election Commission of Pakistan,” ECP observed in the decision.
In its decision, the Election Commission said that the federal government and the Ministry of Interior should provide law enforcement personnel while the Chief Secretary and IG Sindh should appoint security personnel.
It should be noted that the Sindh High Court has also ordered the Election Commission to schedule local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad in 15 days.
