ECP rejects petition seeking disqualification of Faryal Talpur from the parliament filed by PTI
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected a petition filed by PTI seeking the disqualification of PPP leader Faryal Talpur as a Sindh Assembly member.
The ECP ruled that the sister of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had declared all assets owned by her.
The petitioners had failed to substantiate the allegations, it said.
A petition filed by PTI leaders Arslan Taj and Rabia Zafar argued that the PPP leader should be disqualified under Article 62 of the Constitution as she failed to declare the details of her assets, including properties in Larkana and Shahdadkot, in the nomination papers.
ECP dismissed the plea, declaring Talpur eligible to hold the office.
The electoral watchdog had reserved its judgment on October 27 after the completion of arguments on the matter.
ECP stated that “concrete evidence” was required for the disqualification of assembly members.
However, the ECP noted that it was lacking in Talpur’s case.
“The PTI failed to present concrete evidence against Faryal Talpur,” the judgment stated.
