Eid ul Azha to be celebrated on July 31, Fawad Chaudhry

Eid-ul-Azha, in the country will be celebrated on July 31 “as per calendar of the Ministry of Science and Technology” said federal minister Fawad Chaudhry on Monday.

The minister said the Zilhaj moon will be sighted on July 21 in Pakistan adding that it could be sighted with the help of binoculars and in some areas, with the naked eye as well.

Chaudhry, took to the micro-blogging website, Twitter saying that the country will mark Eid ul Azha on Friday, July 31. The Zilhajj moon will be visible in Karachi and its surrounding areas.

“As per calender of @MinistryofST Eid-Al-Adha shall be celebrated on Fiday,31st July 2020. On 21st July ZeAlHaj moon shall be visible over Karachi and it’s peripheral areas, “Ruet”App may also be used to ascertain exact location of the moon,” he wrote.

The minister further said that the “exact location” of the moon can also be ascertain through the Ruet App.

Chaudhry has been advocating that the Ministry of Science and Technology take the lead in the sighting of the moon issue which is usually done by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The minister has called for the science ministry to take lead so the controversy surrounding the moon sighting issue could be ended once and for all.

On Eid-ul-Fitr, Chaudhry had said that two moon observatories will be set up by next year to “permanently resolve” moon-sighting issues.
