Federal Cabinet Postpones Hike In Electricity And Gas Tariff

The federal cabinet has postponed its decision on electricity and gas prices on Tuesday.

According to the details, the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan ratified the September 30 decisions of the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC), but did not accept the hike in electricity and gas prices.

The Economic Co-ordination Committee had approved the price hike but the decision was postponed on the directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

On September 30, ECC had approved up to 14pc increase in the sale price of natural gas for commercial consumers.

The Ministry of Petroleum had proposed  a 5.4pc slash in sale prices for power, 5.8pc for CNG.

After detailed deliberations on the subject, the ECC approved an increase in natural gas sale price for commercial consumers. The committee decided that the increase should not be more than one-third of the GIDC that was imposed till August 2020.

The committee also approved a Rs20 per-month increase in the meter rent for domestic consumers of both gas companies.
