Elephant Dies in India After Eating Pineapple Stuffed with Explosive Crackers

In the Kerala state of India, a pregnant elephant died after eating a pineapple stuffed with explosive crackers. Forestry officials of the region, have lodged a complaint about a criminal investigation against the culprit.

As being reported, in the Palakkad district of Kerala, the practice to stuff fruits with crackers is a practice carried out by the farmers to protect their crops from being eaten by animals.

The incident, albeit presumably unintentional, has created an outcry on social media for its animal cruelty nature.

The pregnant elephant is said to be wandering out of nearby Silent Valley National Park in search of food. After the explosion in the mouth, she tried to cool off in the waters but couldn’t be saved by the forestry department.

“With her mouth and tongue destroyed in the explosion, she paced around hungry without being able to eat. She must have been more worried about the health of the child inside her than about her own hunger,” said Mohan Krishnan, forestry official who was in the team that tried to rescue the poor animal.
