Emotional Outburst of American Woman Causes Flight Delays at Karachi Airport

The Interior Ministry had arranged a ticket for Robbins on a flight to the United States, but she continued to resist leaving.

A 33-year-old American woman, Onya Andrew Robbins, caused significant delays at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday.

As reported, Robbins became emotionally distressed after being abandoned by her 19-year-old Pakistani boyfriend, Nidal Memon, whom she had travelled to Pakistan to be with. This emotional outburst led to disruptions in airport operations, impacting multiple flights and passengers.

Robbins arrived in Karachi in October 2024, having left her life in the U.S., including her children and husband, to pursue a relationship that she believed would lead to marriage. Upon her arrival, however, Memon rejected her, leading to her being stranded at the airport for over a week without accommodation or financial resources. Her visa had expired during this time.

Following the media coverage of her plight, local authorities and NGOs intervened to assist Robbins. They arranged for her return to the U.S. by providing a travel ticket and facilitating a short-term visa.

However, she refused to go back to the US.

Airport officials reported that Robbins resisted immigration clearance and refused to board a Qatar Airways flight arranged for her departure.

“She declined to go through immigration and later refused to board the flight, leading to a delay,” an official stated.

Security personnel were called to escort her to the departure lounge, but airline sources confirmed that her refusal to board resulted in a 36-minute delay.

As per security protocols, passengers cannot be forcibly placed on an aircraft.

Officials noted that authorities had reached out to the US Consulate in Karachi for assistance but received no response.

The Interior Ministry had arranged a ticket for Robbins on a flight to the United States, but she continued to resist leaving.

Police and airport security remain engaged in addressing the situation as officials consider alternative measures to facilitate her departure.
