Sara Sharif’s father and stepmother have been convicted in the Murder case.
Urfan Sharif, 42, and his wife Beinash Batool, 30, have been found guilty of murdering their 10-year-old daughter, Sara Sharif, after a trial at the Old Bailey in London. The jury concluded that the couple subjected Sara to a prolonged campaign of abuse, resulting in her death in August 2023.
Sara’s body was discovered in her home in Woking, Surrey, with numerous injuries indicative of severe mistreatment, including fractures, burns, and bruises. Prosecutors described her treatment as a “campaign of serious and repeated violence” that culminated in her tragic death.
Following the incident, the family fled to Pakistan but were apprehended upon their return to the UK.
Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was found not guilty of murder but guilty of causing or allowing her death. The court heard that all three adults were complicit in the abuse that led to Sara’s demise.
Sentencing for Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool is set for December 17. The case has drawn significant media attention due to the horrific nature of the abuse and the circumstances surrounding Sara’s death.
The case has sparked outrage and calls for a review of child protection measures, as Sara had reportedly been subjected to years of abuse prior to her death. Investigations into whether authorities failed to protect her are ongoing.
The most shocking revelation in the Sara Sharif case was the confession of her father, Urfan Sharif, during the trial, where he admitted to brutally beating his daughter to death. He acknowledged using a cricket bat and a metal pole over several weeks, stating that he struck her “severely” due to anger over her episodes of soiling herself and vomiting.
In a dramatic moment at the Old Bailey, he confessed, “Yes, she died because of me,” and described the extensive abuse she endured, which included 71 external injuries such as fractures, burns, and bite marks
