Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from outside the Supreme Court late Wednesday night.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry had been inside the SC since 11 am (for more than 12 hours) in a bid to evade arrest.
As reported, the Islamabad police arrested Fawad Chaudhry under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Ordinance (MPO) and shifted him to the Secretariat Police Station.
Minutes before his arrest, the PTI leader was talking to the media.
“Never has a petitioner been arrested in such a manner,” Fawad Chaudhry said.
He added that “Islamabad High Court had, a day earlier, approved his pre-arrest bail — which he had shown to the capital policemen earlier in the day.”
Chaudhry lamenting the PTI chief’s arrest said that Imran Khan’s arrest led to a division in the country.
Meanwhile reacting to the arrest, PTI in a statement said the arrest was carried out despite Chaudhry having been granted protective bail by the Islamabad High Court till May 12.
Earlier in the day, The Islamabad police’s ATS officials arrested AsadUmar from outside the IHC Bar Room where he and other PTI leaders were preparing a plea to be filed file in the IHC seeking a meeting with Khan.
Wednesday evening also saw Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi being arrested in Islamabad.
The development came hours after the police apprehended PTI Secretary General Asad Umar as the authorities crack down on the party’s leadership amid countrywide protests in the wake of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest.
