Federal Govt Declares May 1st a Public Holiday to Commemorate International Labour Day
All commercial banks and financial institutions will also remain closed on Thursday

The federal government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday across Pakistan to mark International Labour Day.
According to a notification from the Ministry of Interior, all public and private offices will remain closed on this day in observance of the holiday.
Additionally, the State Bank of Pakistan announced that all banks will also be closed on May 1st to honour the occasion.
Labour Day, observed annually on May 1 worldwide, celebrates the contributions of workers and raises awareness about the challenges faced by the labour force.
The day traces its origins to the 1886 Chicago protests, where workers demanded a reduction in working hours from 14 to 8 hours, a movement that turned violent but marked a significant milestone in labour rights history.
Pakistan officially recognized Labour Day in 1972 with the introduction of its first Labour Policy. Since then, the day has been commemorated with seminars, rallies, and events highlighting workers’ rights and issues.
The Sindh government has also announced a public holiday on May 1, ensuring that government, semi-government offices, and educational institutions across the province will remain closed.
This nationwide observance reflects the government’s commitment to honouring the labour force and promoting workers’ welfare.
