Federer beats Nadal to reach Wimbledon final against Djokovic

Roger Federer beats Rafael Nadal 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in their first meeting at Wimbledon since their 2008 classic, setting up a final against Novak Djokovic.

The Swiss superstar played at his aggressive best on the return of serve, at the net and in long rallies to beat the World No. 2. The match lasted three hours and two minutes, on Centre Court.

 

At 37 years of age, Federer has made through to his 31st Grand Slam final and his 12th at the All England Club. He becomes the third-oldest man in the Open Era (since 1968) to reach a Grand Slam championship final.

On Sunday roll, he will be facing world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who stands between him and a ninth title in a repeat of the finals of 2014 and 2015, both of which were won by the Serb tennis star. Djokovic, beat No. 23 seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the semi-finals earlier on Friday.

Federer, who registered his 100th Wimbledon match win over Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, will now attempt to capture the 21st major championship crown of his career in his 31st final.

After the match, Nadal shared his experience of being on the grass court. In a tweet, Nadal wrote: Amazing match well deserved win by @rogerfederer I had some chances but… Roger played better.
