The federal government is preparing to loosen coronavirus lockdown restrictions considering the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths throughout the county “well below previous projections”.
Officials said on Wednesday that Pakistan despite registering more than 15,500 cases of Covid-19 including 340 deaths has already granted exemptions to dozens of sectors to open up over the last few days.
“The mortality numbers are nowhere near the same as we see in other countries,” Planning Minister Asad Umar, told journalists on Wednesday.
The federal minister oversees the response to the coronavirus.
“Coronavirus cases 30-35% lower than projections,” he added, “if things remained this way, the country could open up further in the coming days”.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the coronavirus cases tend to rise, as of Wednesday nationwide tally surges to 15,500 after Sindh reported 404 cases, and Punjab confirms 97 new infections.
On the other hand, #ExtendTheLockdown is one of the top twitter trends. Netizens are demanding the concerned governments to extend lockdown to ensure that the coronavirus transmission chain could be broken down.
