A female police officer was manhandled outside a mosque in Karachi for enforcing orders of restriction on prayers.
Sindh government had directed people to pray at their homes and limit their movements outside from 12 pm to 3 pm in the afternoon, and the citizens were asked to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in this regard.
However, the orders were not followed, and a Lady SHO in Orangi Town, Peerabad locality of Karachi was attacked by a mob as she tried to restrict people from conducting Friday prayer in a mosque.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a large crowd of men coming out of the mosque and also shows some individuals engaged in a heated argument with the SHO.
Sub-Inspector Sharafat Khan was appointed as the SHO of the Peerabad Police Station ten days ago.
A judicial magistrate of the area, taking notice of the incident has directed DIG West to take action against the culprits involved in the attack on the police official.
Sindh Minister for Information Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday said that the ban on congregational prayers across the province will be strictly followed for Friday prayers.
“The purpose of the measures being adopted is to protect the people against the coronavirus,” he said, adding that the lockdown would actually make the lives of people safer in the long run.
“The restriction of the prayer congregations has been enforced to protect the lives of citizens,” Shah clarified. “The religious leaders have backed the efforts made by the Sindh government in this regard,” he added.
