FIR lodged after clash at Islamabad University

A student was killed on Thursday Evening in a clash between two groups at the International Islamic University in Islamabad.

The police have registered First Hand Information (FIR) on Friday that was filed by another student, Fahad Khan.

According to police sources, a search operation has been conducted in the university and hostels after the incident in which 16 students have been arrested so far. Police said no weapons were recovered during the operation.

According to Fahad Khan, the university was hosting a Mega Educational Expo at its Activity Centre. A leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaquat Baloch was addressing the closing ceremony when a group of 20 students from various counsels entered the hall at 8:40pm.

The students were carrying firearms, glass bottles, iron rods, sharp-edged instruments, and sticks and stones a started fight with one of the students, he said.

In the full-fledged fight between the two groups, a student was shot in the leg, while another attacked with an iron rod.

Two of the attackers surrounded a student named Syed Tufail and held him by his hands, while another hit his head with a big rock.

According to the FIR, the clashed continued in which several students were injured. The injured were immediately rushed to PIMS Hospital where Tufail succumbed to his injuries.

The organisers of the event, Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba  has held members of the Saraiki Student Federation (IUSF )responsible for the attack.

According to the FIR, the suspects escaped from the site of the incident.

The students of IJT vowed to launch an investigation against the culprits.

Later, the university was closed down on Friday and students living on campus were requested to return to their homes.

Earlier, an initial police report had said that one of the groups planned an event but the other opposed it and that led to the brutal clash between rival groups.
