Five Dead in Skardu Landslide as Vehicle Swept Away by Debris

The deceased were identified as residents of Shengus village

At least five people have died after a landslide struck a vehicle in Skardu, Pakistan, on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

The incident occurred near Rondo Malupa while the vehicle was en route from Skardu to Shangus when it was suddenly overwhelmed by a massive amount of falling debris.

Rescue teams were dispatched immediately to the scene, where they recovered four bodies from the rubble. The search for the fifth victim continues, as officials work to clear the debris with excavators and additional personnel.

The deceased were identified as residents of Shengus village.

This tragic event highlights the ongoing dangers associated with travel in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, especially during winter months when landslides are common due to weather changes and snowfall. In a related incident that same day, three individuals were killed in a separate vehicle accident in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the hazardous conditions on the roads in these areas.
