Former Ameer Jamat e Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hasan passes away in Karachi

Former Ameer Jamat e Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hasan passed away in Karachi on Friday.

Syed  Munawar Hasan had been put on ventilator support last week after his health condition further deteriorated.

The 78-year-old former JI ameer was shifted to hospital on June 11 after his health condition worsened as he tested positive for the COVID-19 infection.

Munawar Hasan became a member of Jama’at-e-Islami Pakistan in 1967. He served the Karachi unit as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Deputy Ameer, and Ameer of the city.

In March 2014, he became the first sitting emir or head in the history of JI to be voted out of office when Siraj-ul-Haq Khan was elected Ameer by the Jamaat Arakeen (JI members with voting rights).
