The government of Pakistan has issued asset details of 15 advisors and special assistants in the federal cabinet. The list reveals that four of the advisors and special assistants of the cabinet possess dual nationality.
They include SAPM to PM on Digital Pakistan Tania Adrius, Special Assistant to PM on Minerals and Marketing Shahzad Qasim, SAPM to PM on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, and SAPM to PM for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfi Bukhari.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill holds Green Card.
The government has placed the assets and nationalities of all special assistants to prime minister and advisers on the website of Cabinet division on instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
However, the list does not include assets details belonging to Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood.
Meanwhile, the revelation of advisers’ asset details is a heated topic on social media in Pakistan.
In opposition, Imran Khan said that people in power used their foreign nationalities and residencies to launder their ill-gotten assets from Pak, repeated same while as PM on 3rd Dec'18 – Wonder whats his stance now, now that 7 of his own advisors are foreign nationals/residents— Anas Mallick (@AnasMallick) July 19, 2020
On assets declaration, parliamentarians are bound to declare their own and the assets of their spouses and children. The ECP only enforces declarations or verifies if there is a complaint. But there is no proactive verification of whether the content is accurate and consistent.— Amber Rahim Shamsi (@AmberRShamsi) July 18, 2020
Corrupt ministers still sitting in cabinet.— Mosharraf Zaidi (@mosharrafzaidi) July 19, 2020
The only objective this transparency has achieved is to spite the SAPMs that some elected ministers deeply resent.
All PMs have had unelected advisers in cabinet.
Only this PM has thrown them to the wolves like this. https://t.co/OxB47kVu94
Clarification from SAPM Moeed Yusuf that he doesn’t hold American nationality.— Owais Tohid (@OwaisTohid) July 19, 2020
We all know Moeed for years. He is not only highly educated but an extremely bright individual.
He doesn’t deserve political witch hunting. https://t.co/JE031cxy6J
He is honest, dependable, and very competent to be the SAPM. He isn’t a US national; and even if we assume he is, let’s just compare his performance with some in the past regimes, the so called Pakistani Nationals, who sold its soul for personal gains. Keep it up Dr .@YusufMoeed https://t.co/dGATpGJ4mR— Moazzam Dar (@MoazzamDar) July 19, 2020
