Google, Facebook extend work- from -home policy to the end of year

Google and Facebook have announced that they will let employees working from home for the rest of the year as part of a response by the tech giants to the deadly COVID-19 outbreak.

The tech giants have pronounced strategies to reopen their offices soon but are permitting more home working flexibility.

Google originally announced that it would cling to its work from home policy until 1 June, but is extending it for seven more months, whereas Facebook said it would reopen its offices on 6 July as COVID-19 restrictions are gradually lifted.

The Chief executive of Google, Sundar Pichai told the staff at an all-hands meeting that its work from home policy will be extended until 2021, workers who need to attend the office will start being able to do so from July with improved safety measures in place.

“But the majority of employees who can remotely work will be able to do so until the end of the year”, Pichai added.

The announcement came along with US media reports that Facebook is also allowing employees inclined to their jobs remotely for the rest of this year.

The updated plan of Facebook is to re-open offices in early July, but let people work from home if they prefer until 2021, according to reports.
