Govt and PTI finally sit together at negotiation table

The government and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) finally sat together at the negotiation table to discuss the election date following Supreme Court’s orders.!

The first round of talks was held at the Parliament House’s Committee Room Number 3 which lasted for around two hours.

 

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government’s delegation comprised Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Yousaf Raza Gilani, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Commerce Minister Naveed Qamar.

PTI’s delegation included the party’s Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, and PTI’s top legal expert Barrister Ali Zafar.

According to the sources, both sides informed each other about their top leadership’s stance.

While the second meeting will be held tomorrow.

News source claims that PTI presented the following three demands before the government delegation:

  1. The national and provincial assemblies should be dissolved in May this year and for extending polls beyond May 14, the amendment should be made to the Constitution
  2. If the government decides to amend Constitution, then PTI’s resignations will have to be called back
  3. Elections should be held across the country in July this year.
