Govt. announces to reopen restaurants, gyms, marriage halls, cinema

The government will allow restaurants, cafes, indoor sports venues, and gyms to reopen from August 10, after a closure of nearly five months due to the coronavirus pandemic, announced Planning Minister Asad Umar on Thursday. 

Briefing media after a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC), Federal Minister said it had been decided that restaurants, cafes, and other eateries (Dine-in) will be allowed to reopen by August 10 while the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for them will be finalized in the next few days.

He further added that non-contact sports were also being allowed to resume but without audiences, although tournaments and matches will be permitted.

Planning Minister Asad Umar, announcing the further decisions taken by the NCC at its meeting today said that Pakistan’s tourism sector, for which SOPs had already been decided, will be allowed to reopen from August 8.

The recreational sector and other such facilities including cinemas, theater,  will also be allowed to resume functioning from August 10 (Monday), he added. 

All public transport to resume from August 10.

Meanwhile, Marriage halls will be allowed to reopen from 15 Sep.

SOPs are being developed for this purpose which the businesses are bound to follow, Umar added.

A review on the decision to reopen educational institutes on September 15 would be done on September 7, Umar added.
