Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the government will reimpose lockdowns across the country after Eid if the current trajectory of the virus continues.
He also warned that Pakistan’s coronavirus cases and deaths were on the rise and urged the nation to take precautions otherwise the situation could turn into a “huge tragedy”.
SAPM Mirza was briefing the press on Monday in Islamabad, where he also Lamented that the government’s instructions and standard operating procedures to control the spread of the virus were not being followed.
“It is being observed that movement, the interaction of people has increased during Eid holidays & SOPs are not being properly followed, which could lead to a disastrous situation”, he said.
“As we promised when we eased the lockdown if this trend continues we may reimpose strict lockdowns after Eid,” Mirza said.
“Unfortunately, there is now this thinking among us that this disease [Covid-19] was only here till Eid and that somehow it’ll disappear after Eid. This is a huge misunderstanding.
“I want to warn Pakistanis that if you don’t take precautionary measures, this crisis could turn into a huge tragedy,” Mirza added.
