The federal government announced a substantial increase in electricity tariffs, that directly affects millions of consumers across Pakistan.
According to a notification issued by the Power Division, under the new tariff structure, the base rate for electricity has reached as high as Rs48.84 per unit.
The new tariff structure issued by the Power Division outlines significant increases in the base rates for electricity across different consumption brackets. Here is a breakdown of the new rates:
- For households using between 201 and 300 units per month:
- New rate: PKR 34.26 per unit
- Increase: PKR 7.12
- For households using between 301 and 400 units per month:
- New rate: PKR 39.15 per unit
- Increase: PKR 7.02
- For households using between 401 and 500 units per month:
- New rate: PKR 41.36 per unit
- Increase: PKR 6.12
- For higher usage brackets, the base rate can reach as high as Rs48.84 per unit.
These adjustments reflect a considerable hike in electricity costs for consumers across different usage categories.
Meanwhile, for households consuming up to 200 units per month, a temporary exemption from the increase will be applied for three months.
