Hezbollah to Hold Grand Funeral for Slain Leader Hassan Nasrallah on Feb 23

Nasrallah was killed on September 27, 2024, during an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut

Hezbollah has announced that the funeral for its slain leader, Hassan Nasrallah, will take place on February 23, 2025.

This announcement was made by the group’s current Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, during a televised address on February 2, 2025. Nasrallah was killed on September 27, 2024, during an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut, which marked a significant escalation in hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel.

The funeral will also honour Hashem Safieddine, who was appointed to succeed Nasrallah before his own death in an Israeli attack in October 2024. Both leaders will be buried on the same day, with Nasrallah’s burial site located near the Beirut airport and Safieddine’s in his hometown of Deir Qanoun.

Due to security concerns stemming from ongoing tensions with Israel, Nasrallah had been temporarily interred at a secret location following his death.

Qassem emphasized the significance of the upcoming funeral, stating that it would be a “grand public funeral” to honour Nasrallah’s legacy and contributions to Hezbollah. He also called for Lebanese authorities to ensure security during the proceedings and to address ongoing Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon.
