Heavy rains prediction for Sindh and Baluchistan from Thursday

The Met Office (Meteorological Department) on Monday has predicted heavy rains for Sindh and Baluchistan as monsoon low pressure from the Bay of Bengal is likely to approach Sindh on Thursday (evening/night).

According to MET, under the influence of this weather system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate in Sindh, South Punjab, and Eastern Balochistan from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday.

MET has also issued an urban flooding warning for Karachi and lower Sindh in the coming days, as the province braces a much heavier monsoon spell compared to the previous three.

MET predicts that the fourth spell of monsoon rain in Karachi, which is forecast from August 7-8, can result in more rain than the previous three spells.

Weather Forecast:

Widespread rain/wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Allah Yar, Matiyari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday.

Scattered rain-thundershowers (with isolated heavy falls) are also expected in Bahawalpur, Rahim yar Khan, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Kambarshahdadkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Jhalmagsi, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Awaran on Friday and Saturday.

Furthermore, heavy downpour may generate urban flooding in Karachi and Hyderabad and flash flooding in hill torrents of Khuzdar on Friday/Saturday.

The Met Office has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert during the period.

It was last week when The Pakistan Army was called in to assist the civil administration in dealing with the urban flooding situation in Karachi, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement issued on Thursday.
