Huge Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 shakes Greek island of Samos and Turkey’s Aegean coast, US Geological Survey reports.
According to the Geological survey earthquake’s epicenter was to the north of the island of Greek island Samos near Turkey.
Casualties are feared in the Turkish city of Izmir as the Mayor of city reports the collapse of at least 20 buildings due to the huge earthquake.
The videos emerging on social media showed buildings in the Turkish city of İzmi had been seriously damaged.
According to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Friday’s earthquake was centered in the Aegean at a depth of 16,5 kilometers (10.3 miles) and registered at a 6.6 magnitude. The emergency authority said it sent search and rescue teams to Izmir.
Meanwhile, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.9, with an epicenter 13 kilometers (8 miles) north northeast of the Greek island of Samos.
